Labrador, The Big Land, one of the last untamed, unspoiled placed left on earth. It stretches from the Strait of Belle Isle in the south, to Cape Chidley in the far north, boasting towering mountains, massive rock faces and an infinite supply of lakes and rivers, not to mention waters seasonally teeming with whales and icebergs. Here, you’ll find plenty of fresh air, crystal clear water and truly authentic people.

Welcome to the far east. Where Newfoundland and North America begins. Where the sun shines first, at Cape Spear Lighthouse National Historic site, just a few kilometers outside the historic, yet contemporary, capital city of St. John’s.

There are many historic, charming communities, flanked by big blue seas and sheltered coves to be found throughout the eastern region of Newfoundland and Labrador. The area was the first part of the New World to be discovered and it stretches from John Cabot’s historical 1497 landing place on the Bonavista Peninsula to the gateway to France, the French Islands of St. Pierre et Miquelon, which can be reached by a short ferry trip from the Burin Peninsula.

Right in the heart of Newfoundland, the central region contains some of the best outdoor experiences to be found in the province. It’s where you can visit Iceberg Alley – the stretch of coastline along which towers of ancient ice majestically float down from Greenland – and where whales gather in large numbers to feed, play and people-watch.
